Attorney Crouch's Biography

Attorney Andrew S. Crouch practices in state and federal courts throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. After years of practicing criminal law, he now focuses his practice in the areas of written and oral advocacy, concentrating on criminal and civil appeals. He routinely represents clients in matters pending before the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court and Appeals Court and before the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, as well as superior and district courts across the state. He also frequently represents parties in administrative forums, including classification and registration proceedings before the Sex Offender Registry Board and in appeals of classification decisions.

In 2008, Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly selected Attorney Crouch as one of twenty-five "Up and Coming Lawyers" in the Commonwealth related to his work on behalf of appellate clients and individuals facing the sex offender classification system. He is a member of the criminal appellate, civil commitment, Sex Offender Registry, and district court panels of the Committee of Public Counsel Services. He has also been appointed by the First Circuit Court of Appeals to be a member of the Criminal Justice Act panel, where he receives appointments in federal appellate criminal matters. He is a member of Suffolk Lawyers for Justice and Middlesex Defense Attorneys. Attorney Crouch has spoken to groups of attorneys around the Commonwealth on issues related to criminal law and sex offender classification and frequently consults with and advises other attorneys representing individuals in these areas.

In his appellate work, Attorney Crouch has represented clients in civil and criminal matters with substantial success. He has achieved recent reversals of convictions in Commonwealth v. Rosado, 450 Mass. 657 (2008), Commonwealth v. Knowles, 451 Mass. 91 (2008), and Commonwealth v. Williams, 65 Mass. App. Ct. 9 (2005).

In his criminal work, Attorney Crouch has represented juvenile and adult defendants in all types of proceedings throughout the Commonwealth, including arraignments, probation and parole revocation hearings, trials, and appeals. He has represented clients in a variety of legal settings, from negotiating resolutions before charges are filed to winning reversals in the appellate courts.

Attorney Crouch is also a leading practitioner in the area of sex offender classification, having represented dozens of individuals in registration proceedings and in appeals from unfavorable decisions. He has achieved level reductions, orders of relief from registration and dismissals of proceedings, and secured injunctions preventing the Sex Offender Registry Board from disseminating personal registration information to the public.

Prior to starting his solo law practice, Attorney Crouch practiced criminal and employment law with two small law firms in the Boston area. Attorney Crouch has been an adjunct professor of law at New England School of Law, where he taught appellate advocacy skills to second-year law students. He has also served as a law clerk to the justices of the Massachusetts Superior Court and to the Honorable Mark Green of the Massachusetts Appeals Court.

Mr. Crouch is a cum laude graduate of the Hamline University School of Law, where he was an editor for the Law Review.

He is licensed to practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, and the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts.
